Long before whole-house generators were common, my parents relied on portable generators. Back in the 1970’s we ran extension cords to a generator in the driveway, keeping the freezer running and a few lights on. It wasn’t fancy—but it meant peace of mind. When night fell, we weren’t left in the dark.
Fast forward 40 years.
A generation later, when we built our home, backing everything up “just in case” felt natural. Preparedness simply ran in the family. For nearly seven years, our generator never turned on except for its weekly exercise—quietly standing ready.
Then in February 2021 Snowmageddon hit.
Around 3:00 a.m., I woke up thinking a truck was idling nearby. Instead, it was our generator running—and the entire neighborhood was dark. For three days, we were the only house with power.
During that outage, friends just around the corner had been heating their home with a gas fireplace and stove. They woke up feeling nauseous. I told them to shut everything off and come stay with us until power was restored.
That was the moment I said, “We need to sell generators. Every home needs one.” We have store fronts, and Matthew who has a history in heating and plumbing, and can figure out just about anything, made the perfect combination.
That marked the beginning of Walt’s Generator Sales and Service. We are the generator masters. That is what we do and there isn’t much we haven’t seen. We stand ready to take care of you and your family. We aren’t a fly-by-night handy man or big box franchise who see you as another dollar. You are our friends and neighbors who we live among and want to help be prepared when the time is right.
We understand that choosing a generator is not a simple decision. It’s an investment in your home, your safety, and your peace of mind. Whether your goal is protecting a freezer full of food, keeping your family comfortable during extreme East Texas temperatures, or knowing you’re prepared when disaster strikes, we’re here to help you make an informed, confident decision.
Our goal is simple: to keep you safe, comfortable, and prepared.
